No statement is false. He was a hypocrite. He always says that tge stories that were in the best seller are non-realiatic. But in his real life, he was just the man same as the book 'The Lasy And The Travelyan'.

John was trully a Hypocrite as his philosophy on his behaviour was that when a man is in his hometown, he ought to be law - abiding and decent whereas he himself was stealing petunia flowers for his wife. At some instances of the story, we also saw John critcising the 'best - sellers' and wanted the people not to read these books, whereas he himself was reading such a book and with such great interest. he even declared that the incidents which are depicted in these novels, seldom happen in the real life, whereas his own life was like that only.
