Jim has 100 cards each numbers from 1-100 if Jim puts a star on every multiple of 3 and a circle on every multiple of 7 what cards would have both star and circle.

Solution

Find the LCM of 3 and 7

LCM = 3 x 7 = 21

Identify the cards that will have both stars and circles

⇒ All cards that are multiples of 21

List the cards that are multiples of 21 between 1 to 100:

The cards are 21, 42, 63, 84

Answer: There are 4 cards that have both stars and circles. They are 21, 42, 63 and 84.
