Jim takes a test tube containing starch solution and adds saliva into it. He leaves the set up for 15 – 20 minutes and then adds 2 – 3 drops of iodine solution to it. What will be his observation

Saliva contains an enzyme salivary amylase which hydrolyzes starch into glucose. Starch gives blue black colour on addition of iodine solution but glucose does not gives positive result with iodine test. Hence, when starch is exposed to salivary amylase in saliva it does not gives blue black colour with iodine solution and tastes sweet due to glucose.
