Jim the Joiner buys 2 lengths of wood each measuring 3m in length.
From the first length he cuts a piece 1.4m long and a piece 1.2m long.
From the second length he cuts a piece 1.35m long and a piece 1.6m long.
What is the total length of the wood that he has left over?

Length of 2nd wood = 3m

The length of wood he cuts from 1st wood = 1.4 + 1.2

=2.6m

The length of wood he cuts from 2nd wood = 1.35 + 1.6

=2.95m

Wood left from 1st wood = 0.4m

wood left from 2nd wood = 0.05m

Total wood left = 0.4 + 0.05

= 0.45m
