Rabindranath Tagore was born on 6th May 1861 at Jorasanko, Calcutta. Many of the poet's family
were very gifted. They were either artists or poets, and all loved music. Rabindranath began to
write verses when he was hardly seven years old. His first book of poems was called "Evening
Songs". " Morning Songs" soon followed. But the book that made Tagore known all over the
world was the Gitanjali. He was awarded the Nobel Prize for literature in 1913.
