J.J. Thomson was born on December 18, 1856, in Cheetham Hill, England, and went on to attend Trinity College at Cambridge, where he would come to head the Cavendish Laboratory. His research in cathode rays led to the discovery of the electron, and he pursued further innovations in atomic structure exploration

Answer:

jj Thomson was the first person to propose the structure of an atom. his structure was known as the plum pudding model

according to him an atom was a sphere in which protons were scattered and electrons were embedded into the spaces like watermelon seeds in a watermelon.

the demerits of this model were that it didn't explain the atomic spectrum and it didn't explain the scattering of alpha rays.
