Answer:  In Bernard Shaw's "Joan Of Arc"; Joan wanted to meet the captain squire as she wanted to join the Dauphin. She wanted to be the part of the French military.

She went to see the captain in 1948, but was refused as the captain did not take 16 year old Joan seriously. However, when she went again in 1949, the captain agreed seeing her eagerness.  

Joan joined as a military escort.
