Answer: 3.75% profit

Step-by-step explanation:

Cost price(C.P.) of the cloth= 24×40

=960 rupees

Selling price (S.P.) of the cloth

= (12×45)+(12×38) = 996 rupees

Profit = S.P.-C.P. = 996-960

= 36 rupees

Profit % = 36×100/960 = 3.75%

Question:

Joe bought 24 metres of cloths at ₹ 40 per metre. He sold it 12 metres for ₹ 45 per metre and the rest for ₹ 38 per metre. Find his profit or loss per cent.

Answer:

There is a profit and the profit is 3\frac{1}{8}%

Given:

C.P. of each 24 metres cloths is ₹ 40.

S.P. of each 12 metres cloth is ₹45.

S.P. of rest cloths of per metre is ₹ 38.

To find:

Profit or loss %.

Explanation:

The C.P. of each meter cloth is ₹ 40.

∴ The C.P.  of 24 metres cloth is = ₹(40×24)

                                                     = ₹ 960.

The S.P.  of each metre cloth is ₹ 45.

∴ The S.P. of 12 metres cloth is = ₹(45×12)

                                                   = ₹ 540

∴ The part of cloths remain left = (24-12) metre

                                                     = 12 metre

The S.P. of each 12 metre cloth is ₹ 38.

∴ The S.P. of 12 metres cloth is = ₹(38×12)

                                                    = ₹ 456

∴ Total S.P. = ₹ (540+456)

                   = ₹ 996.

∴ ₹996>₹960.

Since, the S.P. is greater than the C.P. so, there is a proft.

∴ Profit = ₹(996-960)

           = ₹ 36.

∴ Profit % = (\frac{36}{960} × 100)

                = (100/32) [∵ Dividing 36 and 960 by 36)

                = (25/8)

                = 3\frac{1}{8}% %

∴ The profit is 3\frac{1}{8}%.
