Joe rode from his house to a store at an average speed of 30 kilometers per hour. He walked back along the same route at an average speed of 2 kilometers per hour. If his total traveling time was 2 hours, what is the one-way distance from Joe’s house to the store, in kilometers?

Answer:

let d be the one way distance

let t1 be the time in the first instance

Then t1=d/30

let t2 be the time in the second instance

Then t2= d/2

t1+t2 =(d/30+d/2)=2 (given)

d(1/30+1/2)=2

d(16/30)=2

d=15/4=3.75km
