SOLUTION

GIVEN

Joe’s Canoes charges an initial fee of $ 20 plus $4 an hour. Callie’s Canoes charges a flat rate of $14 an hour.

TO DETERMINE

For how many hours would both companies charge the same amount, and what would that charge be?

EVALUATION

Let required number of hours = t hours

Here it is given that Joe’s Canoes charges an initial fee of $ 20 plus $4 an hour

So at Joe’s Canoes the charge for t hours

= $ ( 20 + 4t )

Again Callie’s Canoes charges = $ 14t

By the given condition

14t = 20 + 4t

 \sf{ \implies \: 14t - 4t = 20}

 \sf{ \implies \: 10t = 20}

 \sf{ \implies \: t = 2}

FINAL ANSWER

After 2 hours both companies charge the same amount
