Let H = the highest score and L = the lowest score.

Eq 1) H = 42 + L

Eq 2) H + L = 154

Substitute Eq 1 into Eq 2, you get

42 + L + L = 154

42 + 2L = 154

2L = 154 - 42

2L = 112

L = 112 / 2 = 56 (lowest score)

Eq 1) H = 42 + L

           = 42 + 56 = 98 (highest score)

To confirm, H + L = 154

98 + 56 = 154!
