 Joe \: speed = 4.5 \: miles/hour ---(1)

 Joseph \: speed = \frac{1}{12} \: miles /minute \\= \frac{1}{\cancel {12}} \times \cancel {60} \:5 \: miles/hour \\= 5 \: miles /hour \: --(2)

/* Form (1) and (2) , we conclude that */

 \blue {Joseph \: swam \: faster \:than\: Joe .}

 \red { Difference } = 5 - 4.5 = 0.5 \: miles/hour

Therefore.,

 \green { Joseph \: swam \: 0.5 \: or \: \frac{1}{2} \: miles/hour }\\\green {faster \:than\: Joe}
