Hey there !!
Given, John and Jivanti together have number of marbles = 45
After losing of 5 marbles by each of them, number of marble = 45 – 5 – 5 = 45 – 10 = 35
Let us assume, John has x marbles
Hence; marbles with Jivanti = 35 – x
So, According to the question, product of marbles after loss = 124....
Hope it Helps ..

Let the marbles with John be x Then the marble with Jivanti are (45 - x)
Marbles left after both lost 5 marbles each will be x - 5 and 45 - x - 5
By the question
(x - 5)(40 - x) = 124
40x - x² - 200 + 5x = 124
x² - 45x + 324 = 0
Which is the quadratic equation representing the above equation and the number of marbles John had must satisfy this equation
