john bought two suitcases for rupees 3000 each. He sold one at loss of 10% and other a profit of 5%. Find the overall loss.

S.P. of each suitcase = 3000

C.P. of one suitcase that was sold at 5% profit = (3000* 100/105) = 2857.14

C.P. of other buffalo that was sold at 10% loss = ( 3000* 100/90)

= 3333.33

Total C.P. = 2857.14 + 3333.33 = 6190.47

Total S.P. = 3000 + 3000 = Rs 6000

Loss = 6190.47 − 6000 = 190.47

Thus, the overall loss of John was 190.47. (ans.)
