Given : John drove a car from a city P at 11:40 am and arrived in city Q which is 240 miles away from P at 4.28  pm on the same day

To Find :  approximate  average speed

Solution:

11:40 AM

4.28  PM

Time = 4 hr + 48 mins

= 4hr + 48/60  hrs

= 4 +  4/5  hrs

= 24/5 hrs

Distance = 240 miles

Average Speed  = 240 / (24/5)

= 10 x 5

= 50 Miles /hr

average speed at which he drove the car was: = 50 Miles /hr
