John starts out in the basement parking garage, 11 m below street level. He climbs all the steps to the roof of the building and is now 72 m above street level. How many meters has he climbed?

Mary joins John at the third storey. Each storey is 3 m high. She accompanies John to the roof. How many meters does she climb?

Answer:

Ok...so John starts below the street at 11 meters and finally ends at 72 meters. depending on whether this is a trick question or not it could be either 83 meters or 72 meters. Now dealing with Mary, she started climbing the steps on the third strey (did you mean story?)And according to the information given, each story is 3 meters high. So given that we would divide 3 from 72 and that gives you 24 meters. There is 24 storys to this building and since she started at the third story, just subtract the amount of storys beneath her from the total number of storys in the building. Then with the amount of storys that she did climb, multiply them by 3.

Hope it Helps..!!
