Answer:

John's age= 28 and Son's age=7

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the age of John be x

and " " " son be y

ATQ,

John is four times his son's age

x = 4y \\ x - 4y = 0..........(1)

And,

2 years ago

John's age= x-2

Son's age= y-2

John was 1 more than 5 times his son's age

x - 2 = 1 + 5(y - 2) \\ x - 2 = 1 + 5y - 10 \\ x - 5y = 1 - 10 + 2 \\ x - 5y =  - 7............(2)

Two equations are:

x- 4y = 0 \\ x - 5y =  - 7

‐-----------‐----‐--‐------------------

y= 7 (On subtraction and cancelling x)

Putting the value of y in eq (1)

x - 4 \times 7 = 0 \\ x - 28 = 0 \\ x = 28

Therefore,

John's age (x)= 28

Son's age (y)= 7
