1. Assume variables for Johnson and Ben

2.let Ben be x

3.johnson can do twice more than Ben so 2x

4.2x+x=3x

5.3x=18

6.x=6

7.subsitute in place of x

8.johnson alone finishes in 12 days.

Given: Johnson works twice more than Ben to complete a work and together they can finish the work in 18 days.

To find: In how many days will Johnson alone finish the work?

Solution:

Assume that, the Ben works x and Johnson works twice as Ben i,e, 2x.

Know that according to the question,

\[\begin{array}{l}x + 2x = 18\\ \Rightarrow 3x = 18\\ \Rightarrow x = 6\end{array}\]

Find the number of days required by Johnson to complete the work.

\[\begin{array}{l}2x = 2 \times 18\\ \Rightarrow 2x = 36\end{array}\]

Hence, the johnson will complete the work in 36 days.
