using Pythagoras theorem,
a {}^{2}   = b {}^{2}  + c {}^{2}
a {}^{2}  = 3 {}^{2}   + 4 {}^{2}
a {}^{2}  = 9 + 16 = 25
a =  \sqrt{25 }  = 5
a=5
he need to travel 5km

Given:
Distance travelled towards south=3km
Distance travelled towards east= 4km

To find: how much he needs to travel to return to the destination point.

Solution:
Displacement is the shortest distance between source and destination.

By Pythagoras Theorem:
C^2= a^2 +b^2
=3^2 + 4^2
=9+16
=25
C = 5km
So, the person needs to travel 5km to reach the destination point.
