Joseph jogs from one end A to the other end B of a straight 300m road in 2 minutes 30 seconds and then turns around and jogs 100m back to point C in another 1 minute. What are Joseph's average speeds and velocities in jogging (a) from A to B and (b) from A to C?

Answer:

average speed from point A to B=total distance travelled/total time taken

=300/150

=2m/s

velocity from point A to B=displacement/time

= 300/150

=2m/s

average speed from point A to C=total distance travelled/total time taken

300+100/150+600

=400/210

=1.92m/s

velocity from point A to C=300-100/90

=200/90

=20/9

2.2m/s
