Explanation:

average speed = total distance / total time taken

(a) total distance = 300 m

    total time = 2 minutes 30 seconds = 150 seconds

average speed = 300/150 = 2 m/s

(b) total distance = 300 + 100 = 400 m

    total time = 150 seconds + 60 seconds = 210 seconds

average speed = 400/210 = 1.9 m/s
