"Joseph Priestley (1733-1804) conducted an experiment showing that oxygen is produced by plants. He placed a mint with a burning candle in a closed container.

The flame of the candle used oxygen and went out. After 27 days, Priestley could light up the candle again.

This has shown that plants produce a gas that burns fuels. Oxygen is this gas.

But this process does not cause any changes in their weight.
