Joseph took some sodium hydroxide solution in a Petri dish and dipped a red litmus paper into it. The red litmus paper turned blue.

He took vinegar in the same Petri dish and dipped blue litmus paper. It did not turn red.(vinegar , being an acid , must turn blue litmus to red) what may be the reason for this.
