The river undergoes three states:-
EARLY STAGE:-
In this stage, the river is young. It flows over steep mountains and slopes where the rate of erosion is maximum.Due to downward cutting work of the river it forms striking features like V shaped valley,I shaped valley, waterfall etc .
MIDDLE STAGE:-
As the river enters the plains, it comes to the stage of maturity. Here, the volume of water increases and the land decreases .The river is said to flow through menders.
OLD STAGE:-
Before meeting the sea,the river becomes large and sluggish and gets divided in several distributaries. The river thus deposit silt, sand and sediments over a large area near it's mouth. This large deposition helps in the formation of Delta.

Hope it helps.
