Step-by-step explanation:

Given:

The price of medicine including 5% VAT is 49.40

We have,

selling price = cost price + VAT

⇒ Cost price = Selling price - VAT

⇒ The price before VAT was added

= price including VAT – VAT

⇒ The price before VAT was added

= 49.40 - 5/100 x 49.40

= 49.40 - 2.47

= Rs. 46.93

= Rs. 47 (approx.)

Hence, the price before the VAT was added is Rs. 47

hope it helps :)
