Given:

Let the total guests be x.

1/3 chose beef

==> x/3

5/12 chose chicken

==> 5x/12

So total non veg guests are x/3 + 5x/12

==> ( 4 + 5 ) x/ 12

==> 9x / 12

==> 3 x/ 4

==> 3 x / 4

No of veg guests = Total guest - total non veg guests

==> x - 3x / 4

==> ( 4 x - 3x ) / 4

==> x / 4

Now given:

x / 4 = 69

==> x = 69 * 4

==> x = 276

The total number of guests was 276

Hope it helps
