total guests X
X/3 + 5X/12 =9X/12

total veg = 1-9X/12= 3X/12
3X/12=23

X=92

Solution :-

Let the total number of guests at the party be 'x'.

So, according to the question.

Number of guests chose beef = (x*1)/3

= x/3

Number of guests chose chicken = (x*5)/7

= 5x/7

Number of guests chose vegetarian food = 23

Now, x = x/3 + 5x/7 + 23/1

Taking LCM of 3, 5 and 1 and then solving it.

⇒ x = (4x + 5x + 276)/12

⇒ 12*x = 9x + 276

⇒ 12x - 9x = 276

⇒ 3x = 276

⇒ x = 276/3

x = 92

Hence, there were 92 guests at the party.
