Given:

Julia bought a blouse for $18.25 and a skirt for $22.40.

If she received a 10% discount and the sales tax rate is 7.25%

To find:

How many dollars did she pay?

Solution:

The cost of a blouse = $ 18.25

The cost of a skirt = $ 22.40

∴ The total cost of a blouse and a skirt = $ 18.25 + $ 22.40 = $ 40.65

Julia received a discount of 10%

∴ The price after giving a discount is,

= 40.65 - [\frac{10}{100}\times 40.65 ]

= 40.65 - 4.065

= \$ \:36.585

Also, Julia received a sales tax of 7.25%

∴ The final price Julia will pay is,

=  36.585 + [\frac{7.25}{100} \times 36.585]

= 36.585 + 2.6524

= 39.2374

\bold{\$ \:39.24}

Thus, the final price Julia paid for the blouse and the skirt was → $ 39.24.
