                         Are Films Only For Entertainment?

Though the chief purpose behind making movies these days is entertainment, but they influence our attitude, beliefs, behavior and outlook on life. Films can prove instrumental in bringing about change in the society. Many cine celebrities such as Amitabh Bachan, Vidya Balan, Priyanka Chopra, Aamir Khan etc. have been involved in awareness campaigns. For example Amitabh Bachan has been quite active in many campaigns such as ‘Save Tiger’, Swach Bharat Abhiyan’, ‘Jan Dhan Yojna’, etc. Similarly Aamir Khan has been involved in ‘Incredible India’ campaign to promote tourism in India. Beside, some movies are based on social evil themes such as corruption, terrorism, patriotism, etc. These movies not only depict the social problems fearlessly, but also make people aware of the painful experiences of the victims through melodramatic portrayal of the actual problem. This brings about a change in people’s attitude to these problems and they make efforts to eliminate these problems. Apart from entertainment and edification, films give employment to millions of people in the world. So, films are not only for entertainment. They play a key role in national development.

Films are not only for entertainment because there are a lot of movies which have a message in them, people can learn a lot from them. Some movies give us a picture of what is going in the world and what problems may arise if we behave in a particular way, for example, taare Zameen par is a movie which had portrayed a message about the kids how lack behind and have special skills in them, it was explained how those kids should be treated and it was also a message for the parents that they should not think of their kids as someone lacking behind but should encourage them for finding the right purpose in life.
Other movies which have a message in them they change our thoughts about a certain issue, they impact the way we see the world
