Just before the last match in a season, the total
number of runs scored by Sachin Tendulkar added
up to 2100. In his last match he scored 101 runs. As
a result his average score for the season went up by
one run. Find the total number of matches he played
in that season if he got out in every match.

Answer:

Thus total No of matched played are 31 or 71

Step-by-step explanation:

let Total no of matches before last match =x

total runs=2100

so avg=2100/x

In last match he score 101 runs

so total runs=2100+101=2201

now avg=2201/(x+1)

as per given

2201/(x+1) = 2100/x +1

2201x=2100(x+1)+x(x+1)

2201x=2100x+2100+x²+x

x²+x+2100x-2201x+2100=0

x²-100x+2100=0

x²-70x-30x+2100=0

x(x-70)-30(x-70)=0

(x-30)(x-70)=0

x=30 or 70

Thus total No of matched played are 31 or 71
