There is a saying that Justice knows neither friendship nor enmity . It is quite true in the context of this story also.

In the beginning,Alagu Chowdhari, though not educated formally, displays his sense of justice and fairness,when he pronounces the verdict in favour of Jumman's aunt. He thus earns the hostility of his dearest friend,for the sake of justice.

After sometime,Jumman too gets a chance to sit on the judgement seat, in case involving Samjhu Sahu and Alagu Chowdhari. He thinks of it as an golden chance to take revenge on Alagu  but as soon as he is appointed the head-panch, he becomes aware of the gravity of his position and knows that nothing must come from his mouth but truth and justice. Guided by his inner realisation,he forgets his enmity with Alagu and pronounces a fair verdict.He also seems to have forgotten the idea of revenge.
