Four of the pronunciation problems I have encountered in teaching Japanese students includes R, L, pronouncing the S in singular present tense verbs or plural nouns , and pronouncing the simple past tense of a verb (e.g. doubted).

I let them repeat tongue twisters for R and L. There are a lot of tongue twisters online.

This tongue twister for example: A really leery Larry rolls readily to the road.

For S sounds, the problem is that they often do not pronounce it at all. So, I let them read articles again and again to make it a habit to them to read the s sounds.

The same activity for my last problem. They often confuse the ed as hard pronunciation /id/ instead of /ed/ so I just let them read articles.

Four problems that my students face in pronunciation in English are as follows:

• Intonation: This refers to factors such as pitch, loudness, resonance which varies while speaking

• Stress: This is also an important feature of pronunciation which shows contrasting features of a conversation

• Linking: It is very important to maintain a pattern while shifting from one word to the other which is known as linking

• Vowel and Consonants: English pronunciation relies on sounds of words, not their actual spellings.

Remedial measures of improving pronunciation include reading aloud and reading exclusively, listening to the conversations of others like listening to English interviews, movies, songs etc. to learn and know the correct pronunciation.
