Answer:

Doctors feel that this will not only cut costs but also help the patients in finding relief closer to their homes

Explanation:

Medical fraternity and dialysis patients have welcomed the government’s decision on the launch of a ‘National Dialysis Programme’ under which nearly 2,000 new dialysis centres will be started in the country. City-based nephrologists feel that this move will bring a huge relief to patients who come from the below poverty line as they do not opt for dialysis owing to expensive treatments and long-distance travel to the dialysis centre in metro cities.

Dialysis is a procedure one has to go through in case of acute kidney failure to remove waste and unwanted water from the body. Doctors state that dialysis is a life-long treatment for end stage renal failure patients until they get kidney transplantation. The cost of one dialysis session amounts to Rs 2.5K-3.5K at a private-based hospital as compared to Rs 1500 at a corporate or public hospital.

Dr Haresh Dodeja, Nephrologist at Fortis Hospital, Mulund said, “This move was the need of the hour as the number of renal failure patients is surging with each passing day. Dialysis patients have to take three to four sessions a week for the rest of their life which involves huge challenges including travel and financial expenses. We witness patients coming from out of Mumbai for treatment as there are no facilities in their area but the new centres will bring great ease to the patients.”
