Manganese fights with magnesium and iron for consumption, while it fights with magnesium alone to bind with enzymes.
Manganese is also responsible for inhibiting translocation of calcium into shoot apex.
As a result, mangenese in excess can lead to deficiency of iron and magnesium in the soil.
That is why, the symptoms of iron and magnesium deficiency are the same as toxicity due to manganese excess.
