The Death Trap revolves around the plot against Kedaria's ruling prince, Dimitri, who at the end turns the table on his assassins.
- Prince Dimitri, rivals Karl, who wished to seize Kedaria's political influence by murder. Thus, the enemies of Dimitri had a plot to kill him, and waited for the right time to execute him.
- Three Kranitazki regiment guards were conspiring to kill Dimitri so that Karl rose to the throne. They were aware of being suspected by Dimitri, yet, they moved ahead as they were backed by Karl's political support.
- Dimitri knew he was "trapped and as soon as his loyal regiment leaves, he will be executed any moment.
- Prince's physical examination showed he was suffering from an incurable heart condition. Instead of being killed at the hands of his disloyal officers, he tries to commit suicide.
- Dr. Stronetz was asked to provide him with a poison phial that will kill him, so that he can invite him to die as a king without being killed.
- But as a last act of retribution, when his death was imminent, Dimitri merely wants to die after he has punished his enemies. So, in a bottle of wine, he mixes the whole phial of poison and invites the three officers for a final drink.
- After consuming it himself, the poisoned wine is distributed. It's a sight of his pity, but he reveals a clever act of vengeance at the same time.
- By his intellect, he overcomes his helplessness even though he can not escape his own death. Thus, the play exhibits how the Prince and his helplessness become the "death trap" for officers as a result of their disloyalty.
