Without friction you couldn't tie knots they would just come undone. The tires on your car would just spin around and the car wouldn't move. You wouldn't be able to walk in fact you wouldn't be able to even stand. It's like being on really slippery ice. You wouldn't just sit there you would slide on floor and ground accelerating as you did to a location that is lower in elevation, and you would be trapped there along with others near you. You wouldn't be able to grasp objects they would just slip out of your hand. So that explains the necessary part.
The evil part I suppose would be because friction causes energy loss by the creation of heat, much of which is not available to do work even when an attempt is made to retrieve that energy and to utilize it.

Frictional force causes a lot of losses in general upkeep and wear and tear of machinery. Hence it is considered as a evil. But almost all crucial tasks cannot be carried out without the presence of friction. ... Hence it is considered as a necessary evil .
