Answer:

1) Though sugar and salt are solids they take the shape of the jar because they are tiny solid crystals and also they don't entirely take the shape of the container, they do leave small gaps in between.

2) Sponge is a solid but it is yet compressible because it has small pockkets of air trapped in it. Once all of the air is compressed it is not possible to compress it further.
