1) underground parts of plants to be stem or root the underground stem shows the presence of notes, internodes and axillary buds absence of root hairs etcc roots develop below the ground in potato the stem gets modified into Tuber like substructure for storage of food material. these tubers developed under the ground .the potato is a stem the following:
a) the potatowhere scales (leaves are found only in the stems )
b) this contains but in the regions called as eyes
c) they contain nodes and internodes
d) root hair and root cap are absent

2) the flower is considered to be a modified shoot it was suggested by Goethe 1760 since ""the inter notes in a flower are highly condensed and the appendages such as sepals ,petals, stamens and carpels are generally larger number ""
