This statement basically means that when elements are arranged in increasing order of their atomic numbers, the similarity of properties of the elements appears at the regular intervals.

For example,let take the electronic configuration of the elements repeats itself after regular intervals and therefore elements with same numbers of valence electrons and thus similar chemical properties. The elements in group are strongly metallic and electropositive as they form monovalent ions such as Na+¹ etc.
