The Indian ocean is called so because it surrounds India sub continent probably in the ancient time,sea vessel coming India for trade those water to visit India and that is they need in Indian ocean

1) India has long coastline on the Indian Ocean.
2) India has a Central location between East and West Asia.
3) India's southernmost extension, the Deccan Peninsula, protrudes into the Indian Ocean which makes it significant to international trade done through the Indian Ocean.
4) India was the favourite destination of the traders of the world.
