1)no other country has a long coastline on the Indian ocean as India has so it is India's eminent position in the Indian ocean which justifies the naming of an ocean after it.

2)The indian ocean is surrounded by three side by the water is known as peninsular plateau. It is covered by three side of water that is the reason naming of indian ocean after India.

3)The Indian Ocean is called so because it surrounds Indian sub continent. Probably in the ancient times, Sea vessels coming Indiafor trade sailed through those waters to visit India and that is why they named it Indian Ocean.
