For deleterious effects of ozone layer depletion

Montreal Protocol :

• Montreal Protocol was signed in 1987 at Montreal (cannada) to control the emission of ozone layer depleting substances.

• due to chloroflurocarbons and many more substances when released in stratosphere , with the action of UV rays causes a release of chlorine atoms ( free radical mechanism) , affecting ozone layer with a release of molecular oxeygen.

• ozone depletion occurs widely in stratosphere, the depletion is particularly marked over the antartic region resulting in formation of a large area of thinned ozone commonly called as ozone hole.

• montreal protocol and several other initiatives took by various countries for reducing emissions of CFCs and other ozone depleting substances.
