Answers
The poem poem within is written by James Patrick.
It is a poem where six men are trapped in the cold and they all perish due to one or two prejudices. All the men had their sticks of wood that they could use to lit a fire as a group and keep themselves warm, but due to their racial, religion and social differences, they all held their sticks to themselves ,everyone lighting their stick solely. The result is death by cold, thus the title cold within.
Unity is strength is a proverb that is used to show the importance of being united as a group ignoring all other differences amongst ourselves.
In this poem ,we find that disunity was the cause of death for this men.
If they could have united and maybe lit a fire using all their sticks at once, maybe the cold couldn't have been the cause of their death at all.
We should put aside our ego and prejudice and harness our strength as one.
The poem also shows us that we should 'live and let live'.
Answer:
Unity is strength
It is absolutely true where there is unity, there is strength. This fact can be verified with so many examples. A rope is made up of many thinner threads. These thread are united and twisted into a rope. This rope becomes so strong that it can be used to lift heavy objects. However, if the same rope is separated or dismembered into individual threads, it loses its all strength. Similarly, if a group of people are united, they can work miracles; however, if they are united, anyone can defeat them.
In the poem Cold Within by James Patrick Kinney all the six people belonging to different faiths or social classes could not be united to fight against their common enemy, the cold. None of them used their log to light fire to keep the freezing cold at bay. As a result they all died.
If they had been united, they could have won their adversary, the cold; but they stuck to their differences, and finally died.
