2) Many industries come together to make use of advantages offered by the urban centres known as $\bf{agglomeration\:economies}$.

3) In the Pre-independence period,most manufacturing units were located near the ports, so there emerged certain pockets of industrially developed urban centres surrounded by a huge agricultural rural hinterland. So, the cities started to emerge.
