It is because carbon dioxide is needed for photosynthesis. Without them, plants cannot produce oxygen for living things such as humans and animals to breathe. Nevertheless, too much of carbon dioxide in the air with less green plants to produce oxygen will effect our respiratory system. Thus, carbon dioxide is necessary for life on Earth but we still consider it as a pollutant.
