Carbon dioxide (CO2) is considered a pollutant because it in excess quantities has undesired and adverse effects on the environment. While the oceans and plants can absorb a considerable amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, excess carbon dioxide can absorb outgoing radiated solar heat from earth, heating the earth’s surface and is one of the leading causes of climate change.
