The word shady means something which is shadowy, suspicious or doubtful and the word 'plot' means the story line, scene etc.
The title is aptly justified since the author used to get all his ideas for his stories from the ghost of Helen, which the writer wasn't aware of. This leads to a series of events, with his wife thinking that her husband is cheating on her. Yet, in the end, Lavinia comes to know the truth.
Thus, the entire plot is suspicious and doubtful and has a ghostly element to it. Thus the title is justified.
