Unlike other poets, John Keats has celebrated the beauty of nature using auditory imagery in his poem "The Poetry of Earth". Here 'poetry of earth' signifies the music of the earth. Keats describes every natural sound, like the chirpings of birds, small insects, animals, etc. In this poem, Keats claims that the music of the earth continues in one way or another and it never stops. When the birds take rest being tired due to the hot weather of summer and stop singing, the grasshopper takes lead and continues the music of earth or in other words 'the poetry of earth'. And in winter it is 'cricket' who carries on this job which resembles the grasshopper in summer. By comparing the grasshopper in summer with the cricket in winter as the same, the poet intends to speak of the whole year. Thus it will be just to say that the entire poem revolves around only one theme that is 'the poetry of earth'. Therefore, in keeping with this, it can be said that the naming has been justified.
