In the book there was knowledge about the ancient schools that are our schools. The children didn't liked their own school. They thought that the children of older time were lucky. They studied together, they had a lot of fun together. Margie and Tommy thinks about the fun they (we - older children) had.

Margie's school is next to her bedroom. In place of a human teacher, she has a mechanical teacher and a big screen that displays her lessons. This machine is attuned to her level. The girl does not like such customization and imagines how much fun the earlier students must have had going to the same school. Thus "The Fun They Had" rightly conveys the importance of present day education system when children have fun during their schooling.
