the last leaf is a story in which a girl who is suffering from a disease who does not have a will to live is waiting for a last leaf of the ivy to fall,so that even she will die with it.

on one night ,as the leaf falls Behrman, their neighbor paints a leaf on that wall ,to give tht girl a will to live.

this story says that we should never loose our will to live, and never think that death is the only solution.

hope it helps.

The title ' The last leaf' is quite appropriate. The last leaf of the ivy is the central point of the story. Initially, it becomes a symbol of death for the ailing Johnsy. Johnsy, in head depressed state of mind due to an acute attack of pneumonia, looks at the leaves on the wall in front of window. The leaves are falling one by one. She set up that, she will die as the last leaf on ivy tree falls. Her friend, Sue tries to remove her negative mind set up but she wasn't ready to understand. Old Behrman, in a stormy night, draws a real - looking leaf on the tree that left a positive impact in Johnsy's mind and she recover from her illness.

Hence, the title is quite suitable and suggestive title for the story.

Hope it helps^_^
